Overview
Customer Case Study:
Consolidated Minerals Limited
Profile:
- Western Australian Based Mining Company
- 700 Telephone Handsets & Computers
- 1 Head Office & 2 Remote Mine Site
Consolidated Minerals has its head office and a number of remote mine sites in Western Australia. These mines had no communications connectivity except for a low bandwidth satellite services. They had separate aging PBXs in each of these sites with no ability to seamlessly communicate between locations. The voice quality was poor with a lot of delay.
Challenge
The Consolidated Minerals data network had very low speeds with high latency up to 1000ms which made it impossible to use any of the new applications available on the market. There data switching was out dated and unmanaged.
They had 600 staff on the remote sites with no access to internet and 3 public satellite phones on site to communicate with loved one at home. There was no carrier infrastructure close to the mine sites and therefore they could only get low bandwidth satellite services.
Solution
The solution that Intelligent IP Communications (IIPC) delivered to Consolidated Minerals is virtually the same as the one required by our latest client, MCC Mining. Today IIPC provide and maintain the entire communications infrastructure for Consolidated Minerals.
Carrier Infrastructure
IIPC first designed a solution to deliver high-speed data services to all sites. For the head office IIPC deployed high-speed fibre connectivity. At both of the remote mine sites there was no carrier fibre available. IIPC therefore had to design and construct microwave connectivity spanning 250KM to interconnect to fibre in another location. This replaced the legacy satellite service and gave Consolidated Minerals the flexibility to deliver up to 100MB to each of their remote mine locations.
IIPC also provided voice gateways for all locations to access the public telephone network and terminate off net calls.
Unified Communications & Video Conferencing
IIPC designed and built a Cisco Unified Telephony solution across the entire organisation. This encompassed over 700 Telephone handsets across the three sites. This solution unified all of their offices with extension dialling and presence no matter where a person was located.
Cisco Managed Data Switch Network
IIPC designed and deployed a fully managed switch network across the entire organisation. This encompasses over 200 Cisco switches. IIPC currently manages, maintains and monitors this entire network. This is conducted via our Cisco Works platform and solarwinds monitoring platform.
Secure High-speed Internet
IIPC delivered a single high-speed internet access port from our core network. IIPC installed, configured and manage their Cisco ASA firewall which is currently located in our data centre. As the diagram shows this gives Consolidated Minerals and single access point to the internet for their entire organisation. Their business is secured behind the managed Cisco Firewall and protection for all mail and malicious software is provided via the Cisco Ironport.
Full Mine Site & Camp Communications Infrastructure
Consolidated Minerals built a new mine camp and administration office at their Woodie Mine site. IIPC was awarded the contract to roll out and support the entire communications infrastructure on site.
Site Infrastructure Cabling
IIPC deployed a fibre network solution for the entire site. The deployment included IIPC planning the network and completing the entire build which included civil trench works, conduit deployment, fibre hauling and splicing.
Switch Network
IIPC terminated all fibre back to a central site node room. The fibre was then terminated into a Cisco 4500 chassis switch. Each block of 4 Dongas had an 8 port switch delivering an Ethernet port for voice, internet and a second port for IP TV to each room.
Services To Rooms
Through the fibre and switch network IIPC was able to cost effectively deploy a complete communications package to the individual rooms. This included a phone, high-speed internet and an IPTV solution delivering 20 channels.
Outcome
Consolidated Minerals now have a fully integrated true unified communications solution that reaches every part of their network. Intelligent IP Communications (IIPC) have delivered a single vendor solution encompassing every aspect of the customer communications needs. Intelligent IP provide a fully managed services supporting and maintaining all 200 switches, 700 Phones, internet, IPTV and the entire cable and communications infrastructure plant well as all carrier services.
Consolidated Minerals have one partner to deliver their entire end to end communications solution. IIPC’s solution has enabled Consolidated Minerals to operative as they have never been able before with seamless integration high-speed voice and data.
